The UK education system is different.

Primary school starts when your child is at age 5 and it continues until age 11.

After primary school your child will start secondary school at the age of 12. There are year 7, year 8 and year 9 at secondary school.

Year 9 is a big year for year 8 students because they will be transferring from junior school to senior school. In the last two years of secondary school, year 10 and year 11, starting at age 14.

Students will start to prepare for university when they are ear 12 or 13. They can start a 2 year programme that leads to Advanced (A) level examinations. At the end of year 13, students will receive an Advanced level certificates.

After their certificate, they will start to apply for universities.
